Business radios are programmed to specific frequencies assigned to licensed users. Consumer FRS/GMRS radios are pre-programmed to the exact frequencies assigned for those services. In addition to the GMRS frequencies, there are other standard frequencies for general use. These are known as dot or star frequencies.
Here is a chart of dot, star and other fixed or pre-programmed channels:
Channel | Frequency | Type |
Red Dot | 151.625 MHz | VHF |
Purple Dot | 151.955 MHz | VHF |
Blue Dot | 154.570 MHz | MURS |
Green Dot | 154.600 MHz | MURS |
White Dot | 462.575 MHz | GMRS |
Black Dot | 462.625 MHz | GMRS |
Orange Dot | 462.675 MHz | GMRS |
Brown Dot | 464.500 MHz | UHF |
Yellow Dot | 464.550 MHz | UHF |
J Dot | 467.7625 MHz | UHF |
K Dot | 467.8125 MHz | UHF |
Silver Star | 467.850 MHz | UHF |
Gold Star | 467.875 MHz | UHF |
Red Star | 467.900 MHz | UHF |
Blue Star | 467.925 MHz | UHF |

Jason, I know this is an extremely aged post but I wanted to answer your question. The reason you can't find the beacon is because there is several of them not just one on the same Freq. They are Maxon SCADA radios, with 100 watt Linear Amplifiers. They are mounted on feed bends in certain locations. What they are doing is controlling GPS Sync for farm tractors and equipment. The reason I know this is, I am the tech that repairs/replaces the radios, amplifiers, heliax/coax, and antennas. Again I apologize for answering a post in such and old thread but, this is the first time I am ever seeing it, so it is kinda new to me. Also no one else had answered Jason's question. I hope this is or was the answer you was looking for. Have a wonderful rest of the day.
Maybe a lot has changed since your post, you don't have to have a Motorola radio to get the Blue Dot frequency now.
Rocky, just a clarification, you don't have to have a program cable to program the Baofeng radios. You can input any frequency into them manually. The program cable and Chirp program is nice to have if you are programming more than one to the same frequencies or if you want to save what you program into one of the Baofeng radios.
Rocky, you don't have to have a program cable to program a Baofeng UV-5R. You can manually program any frequency into the Baofeng radios. The cable along with the Chirp program just makes it easier if you are programming more than one radio or want to save what you program into one of the Baofeng radios.
I've been hearing a beacon for about 6 months now on brown dot (464.500)
I find places where the signal is stronger but can't track the source.. anyone else?
South Eastern NC
A Baofeng radio UV-5R for UHF/VHF frequencies which the Blue Dot frequency 154.570 MHz can be programmed into. The programming cable is additional cost. The "Chirp" software is freely available online. A UV-5R and cable can be had < $35, combined.
Be sure to get authentic Baofeng prgrm cable.
Hi Dan, blue dot is now a retired term that refers to a frequency on the Multi User Radio Service, or MURS. You would need a MURS radio, such as the Motorola RMM2050.
